【English Translation】 The Method of Soul Retrieval To perform soul retrieval, first take refuge and generate bodhicitta. Then, visualize yourself as your chosen deity. Prepare an arrow and a piece of cloth. The cloth can be white or red, whichever is available. You will also need five-colored threads, a mirror, and an arrowhead, all of which are tied to the arrow. In addition, you will need a piece of meat from the right thigh, a piece of clothing, meat, alcohol, butter, tsampa (roasted barley flour), and various other foods, as well as a white conch shell. Holding the piece of clothing that has been attached to the patron's body, recite the heart mantra of Amitāyus (the Buddha of Long Life), and prepare five soul-retrieval tormas, five butter lamps, five portions of tsampa alcohol, and five hooks. Have someone of the same zodiac year as the patron hold the arrow and wave the flag, while holding the sick person's clothes in their left hand and calling out to the four directions and eight intermediate directions. On a container filled with grain, arrange all kinds of food in the patron's bowl, place it at the entrance of the house, and recite the following: Hūṃ!
